Ford Everest Next-Gen (2022+) Drop Down Roof Parcel Shelf - Pirate Camp Co

A shelf that mounts at the rear of the Ford Everest Next Gen (U704) cabin roof and drops down into the space above the cargo bay. It uses the dead air between the load floor and the headlining, which is about the last unused volume left in the vehicle. The shelf folds down so you can reach what is on it without unpacking the boot.

Why the drop-down design

A fixed shelf gives you a few centimetres of clearance and not much else, and it is awkward to load. The drop-down version folds down for access, so you can get at stored gear without pulling the cargo bay apart. It is the straight upgrade if you are already running a fixed parcel shelf.

Rear vision is the trade-off. If you already load the cargo bay to the window line you have lost that view anyway.

Load rating and safety

• Light, soft items only. No heavy, rigid or unsecured items
• Spread the weight evenly across the shelf
• The seating row beneath the shelf must not be occupied while the shelf is installed
• Remove the shelf and its mounting brackets before using that seating row

How much weight can I put up there?

10kg maximum, spread evenly, light and soft items only. Jackets, sleeping gear, straps, a first aid kit. Weight up high raises the centre of gravity, which is exactly what you do not want in a wagon on a side slope, and anything unrestrained up there becomes a projectile in a crash.

Can people sit under it?

No. Pirate Camp Co state the seating row beneath the shelf must not be occupied while it is installed, and that the shelf and its brackets have to come out before that row is used.

Will it block my rear vision?

Partly, yes. The shelf hangs below the roofline at the back of the cabin, so it takes the top of the rear window view. Most owners who load the cargo bay have already lost that sightline. If you rely on the interior mirror rather than the reversing camera, sit in the vehicle and picture the shelf position first.

How hard is it to fit?

Pirate Camp Co describe it as a simple installation with minimal vehicle modification required. It mounts to the roof structure at the rear of the cabin. Take your time with the trim clips, and getting a second person to hold the shelf while you locate the first fixings makes the job much easier.
