What to know before ordering

Description, fitment and specifications

A free-standing 270 degree awning that wraps from the side of the vehicle around the rear, housed in an aerodynamic hard shell case. Free-standing means it holds its own shape in calm conditions without support poles pegged out. The fabric is 200gsm technical cloth with a graphene coating and a waterproof treatment, and there is LED lighting built into the support arms.

Compatibility

This is not a vehicle specific part. VIKOR list it as roof rack compatible and it mounts with a bracket system, so it will go on a ute, a wagon, a canopy rack or a trailer rack, provided the bars are spaced to take the brackets and the rack is rated for the load.

It does not mount directly to a roof without bars and it does not mount to a bare gutter. Check the load rating of your bars or rack before ordering, and factor in that a hard shell case weighs more than a soft cover. If you are not certain the brackets suit what you have, send us a photo of your bars and we will check it before you order.

Key features

  • 270 degree wrap-around coverage down the side and around the rear
  • Free-standing in calm conditions, so an ordinary setup needs no support poles
  • 200gsm technical fabric with a graphene coating
  • VIKOR state the coating blocks up to 99.5% of UV, which is what keeps the heat down underneath it
  • Waterproof treated fabric
  • LED lighting integrated into the support arms
  • Aerodynamic hard shell casing
  • Rapid manual deployment

The hard shell is the reason to pick this one over the soft shell version. A moulded case takes the weather, survives corrugations better than a fabric cover, and you are not wrestling a wet cover back on at 6am. It also means the awning is protected from dust and debris while it is folded, which matters if you leave it mounted year round.

Frequently asked questions

Hard shell or soft shell?

The hard shell costs more and weighs more, and in exchange you get a moulded case that handles corrugations, keeps dust off the folded awning and never needs a wet cover zipped back over it. The soft shell is lighter on the roof. If the awning lives on the vehicle year round, buy the hard shell.

What do I need to mount it?

Roof bars or a roof rack, and the bracket mounting system to suit them. Check the load rating of your bars or rack first, because a hard shell awning is a permanent load sitting high on the vehicle and it counts against your roof rating whether it is deployed or not.

Does it really stand on its own?

VIKOR rate it as free-standing in calm conditions, which covers most of what you would use it for. In wind, on uneven ground, or anywhere you would not want to trust the arms alone, put support poles under it.

What is it good for?

VIKOR list it for touring, camping, day trips, beach setups and overland travel. It is shade and rain cover over the side and rear of the vehicle, which is where you cook, work out of the boot and sit down at the end of the day.
